Question: How to fix a leaking shower? (without a plumber)?
When we turn our shower on water squirts out from the main box on the wall. My dad use to do the DIY in our house but he last year he died. Me and my mum have no clue and cant afford a plumber.

Does anyone what the problem is and if its an easy job?

Thanks

if its squirting from the box,for gods sake don’t use it??? the wires are behind the box,and you could bloody fry yourself. leave the shower till you can afford a competent plumber to sort it.

What kind of ceiling should I put in my bathroom? Small room with a shower in it.?

Question: What kind of ceiling should I put in my bathroom? Small room with a shower in it.?
The room is only about 6 ft. X 7 ft. and about 1/3 of it is a shower stall. I seen on diy disaster that you shouldn’t use suspended ceiling over a shower. That would be my easiest choice because I have plumbing and electrical involved. It’s not in the basement but it’s the same type of situation. Would appreciate some feedback, thanks in advance for any ideas.

You really should re-hang it with green board and seal it with a silicon caulk. This will make a water tight seal that will keep the water out of your frame work.

Why does the water run hot and cold when taking a shower?

Question: Why does the water run hot and cold when taking a shower?
This has probably been asked before but when taking a shower our mixer shower runs hot and then cold continuously. Why is this & can it be fixed DIY style or would we have to call a plumber? Also when running the hot tap it can take a good couple of minutes before it starts getting hot, so are these problems all related?

Just incase you need to know we have a combination boiler! Thanks ;)
This happens even when no one else is in, and no other appliances (dishwasher etc) or taps are running!!

Maybe someone else is using hot water in the kitchen or another bathroom at the same time.
So it gets drawn that side. This happens with us.
cannot think of anything else.

Can ceramic floor tile be used on my shower walls?

Question: Can ceramic floor tile be used on my shower walls?
I’m looking for the least expensive way to tile my 36″ X 36″ shower stall. The existing tile is covering 72 square feet of surface. I can get some great deals on good quality 12″ X 12″ ceramic floor tiles between $ 1.50 – $ 3.25 ea. This is far cheaper than a dollar each for 4″ X 4″ bathroom tile.

Are there any reasons why I shouldn’t use ceramic floor tiles instead of bathroom/shower tile?

The installation would be identical, but far less expensive if I can do this.

I’m looking for the best deal because I’ve discovered a huge termite/dry-rot/mold problem in the bathroom. The total cost of replacing the lumbar, drywall, tile, etc., is killing me, so must make all repairs myself.

Thanks for reading this & for any help! I live near Los Angeles, California, so any suggestions on local suppliers are welcome.

P.S.
Anybody know where to find prefabricated “plastic” panels that look just like 4 inch square tile on the wall? I saw it used on a DIY show, but can’t find it

Yes, you can use ceramic floor tiles on your bathroom walls… NO PROBLEM!

I would suggest you shop around a bit. You should be able to find 12×12 tiles for a buck each…

Just make sure you buy the proper grout and ensure it’s sealed. After that, you’re laughing!!

Good Luck!
