Step Flashings explained • Continuous flashing is not recommended • Only reuse existing step flashing if it is in “like new” condition but new step flashing is recommended • Do not nail flashing to both the deck and the wall • Use WeatherWatch or StornGuard around roof protrusions
How to repair rips in the fabric of a soft roof on a car. These slashes are often caused by vandals. It can be difficult to make a quality waterproof repair which looks good; however a good repair can be made with Stormsure Flexible Repair Adhesive. It will remain strong, yet flexible. It is tough but also waterproof and abrasion resistant. Ideal for leaking seams, windows and fixing trim too. We ship goods to USA and worldwide. This is what Cameron Dias would use on her ripped soft top if she did not buy a new car!

They failed to mention the importance of counterflashing. That roof to wall flashing should have been counterflashed. They also didn’t mention anything about the proper way to flash a brick sidewall. One thing that people don’t realize is that the flashing is not warranted by the manufacturer of the shingles. A flashing failure means the shingle warranty is void due to improper installation. Always use new flashing! Spend the money on flashing and save on water damage repair.
What an idiot everything he’s doing is wrong, home owners please dont believe this garbage…
@carpenterdrummer Hello, my name is Angelo, I am Brazilian. I have a roofing contractor. I found your awesome video. Congratulations!
@TommyPickle74 I agree 100%, I’m only a carpenter with a limited amount of roofing skills. DO NOT INSTALL THAT LAST ROW OF SHINGLE. Dab high quality roofing sealant over the face nails.
Do not put that piece of shingle at the top of the flashing covering the apron up. So many times I have seen this and it bucks , and holds water. I definately dont agree with what the manufacturer recommends. They might make the product but people that do it have perfected the install.I have 18 yrs. installing shingles. How long have they been doing repair work? Because of these inaccurrate videos , homeowners think they know more than a roofer does. Thanks alot!!
I’m installing my own roof can I save the current step flashing where it ‘s in good shape?,will lining it up with the new shingles be to difficult? my concern is the siding has only about a1/2 inch gap to the roof,it’s probably nailed through the siding, cramming new metal up there would be a pain!!(BTW I’m a 25 yr Tile Stone Contractor)
GAF roofing, do some quality control on who you give master Elite status to. I got ripped off by one. Won in court but it did not pay for other damages. BBB gave him top rating only because hes been a member so long.
the fuck? 3:45 “shingle up to the wall and seal against wall”. No . 2 rows under the dormer flashing. no sealing required unless theres a hole in the angle of the flashing. No need for caulking or tar in any of this video. I am a certified Gaf installer but i do not agree with some of these methods.
Thank you for sharing this.
look this vid : “THE REAL ROOFER ”
click on the first vid
thats quality, german quality !!!
I like your series, very helpful, BUT stop waving those hands around so much, it’s distracting, not to mention it’s too much like a god damn hip hop music video!
This is on the “bait and switch” contract I signed, for the leaky roofing and wrecked skylight.
unamed!!!!! Construction Company is a GAF “Master Elite” contractor.
Gaf roofing people…………do you check these Master Elite contractors???
more “We have included an enhanced GAF “Systems Plus” warranty in our proposal (see enclosed information) at no additional cost. These warranties which cover the entire roof system, includes labor and is transferable should you sell your home.”
Unfortunatly, I hired a roofing company to install Gaf architectural roofing and they burned me with an unidentified sub ringer, without any flashing or roofing skills. Posted a video of the roofing contractors rip off.
It a real shame they ruined my roof and skyligthts.
I’m having issues on my Honda S2000 with water soaking into the stitches along one side of my roof. The water collects in the rubber seal below and when you drive off or open the roof the passenger gets a soaking. I’m going to try this which collects in the leaking adhesive to see if it helps.
Thanks for your comments. Do you have a photo of the repair you can send or post?
I bought this stuff and it works very, very good!!! Had a VW Cabrio and the seam had come apart in the corner about a foot long, glued it, clamped it the best we could and its holding without a problem. Very Pleased!!! Thanks, the car isn’t worth $1000.00 for new top but for approx $10.00 it’s well worth that.
@Glueshop just ordered it from your website, hopefully it doesn’t take long to arrive in the US. Will let you know how it turns out. Thanks.
The best way will be to put sticky tape over the top to keep the fabric in exactly the right place while glueing. Paint a few thin layers of glue over the damaged are on the inside. Thin layers of glue will not drip. Allow to dry between applying layers. Keep the opened tube of glue in the freezer to stop it curing in the tube and arm up again before use.
My soft top was just slashed this weekend! Not a big slash, just around 1 inch on the top. Stupid vandals! I’ve watched this video and looks like I’ve found my solution, but I have a question, is it possible to fix with my top up? I can leave it unlocked but no way I’m going to take the whole thing off. I guess my question is, how drippy is the glue? I’m going to put it in the interior so will it drip right off the cloth?
Can I get this stuff in USA, is it just goop
Thanks for your comment 1bucketseat. I appreciate your note about removing the frame. I can only suggest that you try some of the Stormsure product on some material yourself and see how thick the layer needs to be to give it the strength you need. It is much stronger than you might expect. We use it on inflatable boats where the tubes are pumped up until they are rock hard and it holds fine, even with people bouncing up and down on it. Several professional repairers use it here in England.
looks nice on video, also looks like a vw cabrio convertible, you need to mention the top material was removed from the frame to do the job on a work table, the time to remove and reinstall the top is 6.5 hours if you know what your doing. i wonder how strong the bond is under pressure when top is locked into position and how well it would hold . under pressure i dont think it would work for the 6.5 hours i invest in removing and reinstalling, this is 25 years in auto upholstery talking to you.
Hello Syyenergy7
Actually the adhesive sets and forms a layer of polyurethane. The thickness of the glue will determine the strength of the film once it is cured. On test samples I have done on this material, the material rips before the glue fails when attempting to pull it apart. The polyurethane material is really very strong. Sure, if you only have a very thin layer of glue it will not be very strong. But you do not actually need to use a patch. (But of course you can if you want to!)
In no way is that repair strong enough as it was done. It would at least need a quality material on the backside adhered across the cut portion so as to bridge the cut. Otherwise it’s a lot weaker than the original material.
You can apply Stormsure flexible repair adhesive to the leaking area. You do not need to use a patch. Just apply the glue to the are and let it form a flat thin layer, and let it cure. It is really tough, flexible and waterproof. Put some sticky tape under the leak if the holes are large enough to let the glue drip through, then remove the tape when the glue has cured.
the roof of my convertible appears to be leaking at both leavers and soaks the seats. What can I do?
