@pj0419 – If this is a ‘bonus’ room, (meaning there is attic space above the garage, and you can see an exposed wall) the best way to keep heat in in the winter, and out in the summer is to staple Radiant Barrier up on that exposed wall. If there is NOT exposed wall, then of course, you will have to do what you are thinking….Good luck! (P.S. I have taken care of 40+ bonus rooms by doing my suggestion)

@peb3232 Yes you can and I have… Although I’ve never tried to do it in a wall. I’ve used the extra insulation lying around after I returned the machine. If you want sound proofing for a wall pack the cellulose in as tight as you can. Density is important for soundproofing.
You may not even need to break it up much. Just pull blocks of insulation off with your hands and jam it into the nook.

Is it possible to install this stuff by hand? We are creating a soundproof wall and there are little nooks that our blue jean insulation will not cover. I know water is added in the usual process. Just wondering how to balance all that manually.
@pj0419 Hey Thanks! I’m pretty sure the GreenFiber machine is going to give you problems clogging up under pressure. But you definitely need to snake a hose down through the holes. Put the tube in place – turn on the machine – and back the hose out as it starts to whine. You can buy a PVC reducer that will fit on the end of the GF hose and buy a clear 1 1/2″ flexible hose to fit through the holes. Just make sure there’s no exposed wiring, recessed lights or electrical problems.
First off, great videos! Now I have a question. I am planning on using the Greenfiber insulation to insulate my attic and above garage. How do I insulate the garage ceiling? There is a bedroom above it. Do I just drill holes and fill it up or does the hose have to be inserted in the holes?
I rented this GreenFiber machine from Lowes but the Home Depot has them too. If you buy 20 bags of GreenFiber insulation, they throw in the rental machine for FREE. 24 hours. It only $25 a day after that…
So don’t worry if you don’t get it all done the first day, take your time and try not to step through your ceiling.
As for how thick of a layer…I’d recommend at least 15″ to get somewhere near R45. But if you really want to save money, make sure you air seal your attic before you blow.
