Question: need permit for shed if i purchase this on amazon?

it is ridiculous to have to get a permit for a diy shed such as this one. Is it true?

Answer by ohhhdear
It depends on your city or township’s ordinances. Most will require a building permit if you’re putting the shed on a cement slab. It doesn’t matter where you bought the shed. You could have bought it from Home Depot, Menard’s or the guy who builds shed kits down the road. If you’re going to permanently install it on a slab, you may need a permit (and it may raise your property taxes).
Check with a local lumberyard that sells shed kits. They’ll know if you’ll need a building permit or not.

you can get the whole roof redone. which will cost about 5000 to 10000 but you could also get a coack( pronounced like co-ck). I know that sounds weird but that is a tool used to fill up holes.

How difficult is fitting a velux window? read on please!!?

Question: How difficult is fitting a velux window? read on please!!?
We want to install a velux window into our roof. Only a small one, like an old attic light style one. Say (45cmsX55cms)
Have any of you done this job and how hard is it? what are the things to look out for?
The roof is tiled in old pantiles and the room below is already plastered/boarded out. Is it as simple as the vendors make out?
We do have pretty good DIY skills, but never done a roof without help from a roofer.
Thanks!

It is not really difficult. However, the tricky and important part is flashing it off when finished. To do this you will have to be on the roof and will need to know how to fit flashing so that there are no leaks near the window. The only other concern is that there is a 95% chance you will also need to cut at least one (maybe 2) rafters to fit the window. When you do this you will need to resupport those rafters. This is where the know how comes in.

Considring installing “sun tunnel” for light to dim area. Whats downside & how much light can I expect?

Question: Considring installing “sun tunnel” for light to dim area. Whats downside & how much light can I expect?
concerned about
. heat loss,
. condensation,
. excessive heat,
. leaks in roof,

the 14″ diameter tube will be about 9 feet long from pitched roof to level ceiling, with a diffuser, in upstate New York.

Any experiences out there to share would be appreciated.

I saw it installed on a DIY show a few months ago and was very impressed.

Open the drapes on a small north-facing window — that’s about how much light you’ll get from a sun tube the length you’re looking at. With an internal hallway or bath that can be quite a stunning difference.

Heat gain/loss and condensation will depend on the quality of the unit, just as it does with any window.

Leaking should not be an issue — structurally, this is no different from an exhaust vent. Call a good roofer for the external portion of the installation.
