How to get rid of raccoons from your chimney?

Question: How to get rid of raccoons from your chimney?
My neighbors have maybe four raccoons who found a home in their chimney. They tried mothballs with no result other than their home smelling like mothballs, and the raccoons are still there. Any other DIY ideas? This couple are in their late 70′s and are not able to climb onto their roof.
Thanks for all suggestions.

How much would it cost to replace a ceiling in a mobile home?

Question: How much would it cost to replace a ceiling in a mobile home?
We bought a single wide mobile home and have to do some work to it. The ceiling needs to be replaced. The roof has already been fixed. I was wondering if anyone knows roughly how much this will cost for a DIY job. Obviously tearing it down will cost little to nothing but how much are we looking at for everything else??

Do not know, but you might consider using 1/2 to 3/4 inch styrofoam. Probably a bit more expensive but you will get quiet a bit of insulation benefit out of it.

Gable or Flat Veranda? DIY?

Question: Gable or Flat Veranda? DIY?
I want to do this Job as a DIY and torn between Gable and Flat roof. Gable looks better and not as hot I know, but surely harder to build even if I buy pre made A’s. How much harder is it? can someone with limited experience build this?

Answer:

Answer by milcollector
Do the gable, especially if it will tie into the rest of the house and I would suggest trusses, get a price you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Tieing the new shingles into the existing shingles can be time consuming.
Sounds like you need a friend with a little knowledge and time that likes beer.

What is the best, cheapest flooring for old uneven floors? How much $$ for 400 sq ft with DIY installation?

Question: What is the best, cheapest flooring for old uneven floors? How much $ $ for 400 sq ft with DIY installation?
I am thinking of buying an old house, but I hate the ugly carpet in the living room. I really would prefer not to have carpet because I have a cat and carpet and hairballs just don’t mix. lol I’m pretty handy around the house for a girl, so I’m open to suggestions for a new floor – even off the wall, tree-hugger stuff. Thanks!

are sanding and re-staining hardwood floors a DIY project?

Question: are sanding and re-staining hardwood floors a DIY project?
we don’t have any experience doing either.. so i’m wondering, is this a project we could takle ourselves (we are planning on refinishing all the hardwood flooring in our house, approximately 1200 sq. ft.) or should we hire it out? and if we did hire someone, does anyone have an idea how much it would cost?

Answer:

Answer by Alexis
Do Not Sand The Floors Your Selves! This is best left to the pros as making a mistake could cost you a fortune! I would hire that part out most definitely, The rest is really not that hard staining is simple so is poly urethane or varathane just follow the directions. I have no Idea where you live so I don’t know what it would cost in your area prices vary I would call around and get a few estatments and make sure they are insured in case they screw up your floors!
